Weight Loss Spa

A health and weight loss spa can help you lose weight fast and learn how to make healthy lifestyle changes. These spas are not cheap, so it's important to pick the right one.

There are many different types of spas, so you need to choose one that fits what you're looking for.

There are fitness and weight loss spas with an emphasis on exercise and good nutrition.

There are cleansing and fasting spas. They emphasize detoxification by juice fasting and or eating raw fruits and vegetables in their natural state.

What To Look For

Obviously, the goal of going to a weight loss spa is to lose weight. BUT, you want to make sure that you leave with the tools to keep the weight off and stay healthy long after your spa retreat.

Here is a checklist of questions you should know the answers to before you choose a spa…

Does the spa teach how to prepare nutritionally balanced meals?

Will you learn how to shop for foods that are low in fat, sodium and sugar?

Will you be taught how to prepare healthy snacks?

Is there an emphasis on choosing natural, unrefined foods?

Diets should be at least 1200 calories, but preferably closer to around 1400 or 1500 calories per day. DO NOT go to a weight loss spa that will put you on a diet that is less than 1200 calories.

Diets that are too low in calories will slow down your metabolism in the long run. That means you’ll eventually gain back the weight that you lose in the beginning.

Will you learn how to design a balanced exercise program that emphasizes weight training, cardiovascular exercise, and stretching?

Sure, you’re going to have supervised workout sessions while you’re there. You can’t stay forever though, so you’ll need to come away knowing how to design your own effective routine.

Are beginners and advanced exercise classes offered?

Your weight problem might be tied to stress or emotional baggage. The spa program should include counseling sessions with psychologists and or stress management lectures.

Choosing A Weight Loss Spa

If you just want to lose weight, choose a more basic no frills weight loss spa. If you want to be spoiled and pampered while you lose weight, choose one of the luxury spas.

Choose a spa such as Cal-a-Vie if you want to experience world class luxury.

Cal-a-Vie is a San Diego based resort that sits on 200 acres among rolling hills in a secluded valley. It’s a retreat complete with natural and beautiful surroundings.

You’ll receive a personally customized program based on your goals.

You’ll stay in your own villa equipped with a safe, a luxurious robe, slippers and bath shoes, an assortment of bath products, a towel warmer and more.

A large variety of fitness classes and therapeutic treatments is offered.

You won’t need to pack any workout clothes - guests are provided with those.

Currently, their cheapest plan is around $4000.

The highly respected Pritikin Longevity Center combines medical, health, wellness and spa services with luxurious resort facilities and amenities.

Don’t expect to be pampered much in the Cooper Wellness Program, but it is one of the premier wellness programs. A spa is available, but there is a strong emphasis on long term strategic planning to live a healthy lifestyle.

Your visit begins with an optional comprehensive physical exam.

The next step is a full nutritional and lifestyle assessment.

During your stay, you’ll attend lectures and fitness classes (in groups and with a personal trainer).

One of the most helpful things you’ll learn in the Cooper program is how to order healthy food when you eat out. You’ll take educational trips to dine at local restaurants.

No two weight loss spas are the same. Each one has something different to offer. Make sure you do some research and look for reviews before you make your choice.
