The 14 weight loss motivation tips in this article will help you stay on track towards your goal.
You might want to take some notes because I'm going to give you some great tips for sticking to your weight loss program.
Ready? Let's get started...
Tip #1 - List Your Whys
Your list of “whys” alone can be enough to keep you motivated to lose weight. Why do you want to lose weight?
You don’t like what you see in the mirror?
You want to throw away your blood pressure meds?
To gain confidence to hit the dating scene?
To feel sexy for your man or woman?
To look good in a swimsuit on your vacation?
Because the doctor said you're pre-diabetic?
Whatever your reasons, get em’ on paper.
Consider making copies of your list and put it in different places – on your fridge, at your cubical, on your bedroom mirror…
Read your “why” list daily. At the very least read it when you don’t feel like exercising or when you’re feeling discouraged.
If your why list is powerful enough you should feel an instant shot of motivation every time you see it.
Tip #2 - Set Goals
"Goals create energy and motivation. Goals get you out of bed early in the morning and into the gym. The secret to staying motivated all the time is to set emotionally charged goals – in writing - and to stay totally focused on those goals day and night, without taking your eyes off them."
Let’s face it – most people who want to lose weight want to do so to improve their looks. There's nothing wrong with that, however...
Conditions like heart disease, hypertension, diabetes, osteoporosis, arthritis, etc… Exercise and nutrition has an influence on all these conditions.
Imagine that every workout and every healthy meal helps strengthen your wall of protection against most health conditions.
Tip #4 - Hire A Trainer
One of the best weight loss motivation tips I can give you is to hire a Personal Trainer. If you can afford it, do it!
He or she can teach you how to lift weights correctly, motivate you to show up at the gym, help keep your eating in check, and push you to workout hard.
Also, the cost of hiring a professional can help motivate you to get the most out of your time together.
Constantly visualize what you want your body to look like.
Now, imagine that every single workout and every healthy meal inches you closer toward that body.
While you're exercising, imagine that fat is slowly being burned away from all parts of your body.
Tip #9 - Take Pictures
Take pictures of yourself in a swimsuit or anything that's revealing.
Each month on the same date take more pictures in the same outfit.
Take one picture from the front, one from the side and one from behind.
See what happens to your motivation when the pictures show you that your thighs and belly and other parts are shrinking!
Tip #10 - Display Old Pictures
Display some old pictures of yourself when you weighed less.
The point of this is for you to remember how you once looked and felt about your body. It might motivate you to do whatever you need to do to regain that look.
Tip #11 - Record Your Weight, Body Fat Percentage & Measurements
Each month you should weigh yourself, measure your body fat, take measurements and record the numbers. It takes 10 minutes or less and it's worth it.
You will feel instantly motivated when you see those numbers shrinking.
If the numbers aren't changing, that means you need to make adjustments in your nutrition and exercise routine.
Look for an upcoming event to train for. Like a 4 or 5 mile walk/run for charity.
In my hometown of Chicago, a local health club organized an indoor triathlon featuring a 10-minute swim, 30 minutes of biking and a 20-minute run.
You could try to organize a Biggest Loser type contest at your workplace. If you do, use the biggest percentage of body fat lost instead of weight to determine the winner.
It's very motivational to have an event or competition to train for.
Tip #13 - Buy Some Clothes
If you're looking to regain your 32-inch waist, go to your favorite clothing store and buy yourself an outfit that you like.
You'll be motivated to do what it takes to fit into that outfit!
Tip #14 - Start A Rewards Program
Rewards can be great motivators. At the end of each week allow yourself a treat for a job well done.
- order that double cheeseburger and fries - have that cake and ice cream - drink a 6 pack of beer - get a massage, facial or pedicure
You need to have some discipline for this to work. If you miss a workout or cheat on your diet, you have to pass on that reward!
All too often people start down the path to weight loss but don't finish. Use these weight loss motivation tips and you will be much more likely to finish what you start.
