The following list of foods can help you lose weight and keep it off. The trick is that they have to be just part of an effective overall nutrition and exercise program.
If there's something you see that you don't like, there are plenty of healthy substitutions.
Carbohydrates
100% whole wheat bread
100% whole wheat pasta
oatmeal (old fashioned)
beans
sweet potatoes (or yams)
brown rice
whole grain anything really
Lean Proteins
egg whites or beaters
skinless chicken Breast
salmon
turkey breast
top round steak (grass fed beef is best)
lean ground turkey
What about vegetables?
Eat all the vegetables you want! It's as simple as that. At the very least have a few servings a day.
And what about fruit?
Let me first make something clear - fruits are healthy! They're rich in nutrients, vitamins and minerals and antioxidants.
While fruit is very good for you, the simple sugars in fruit can actually hurt your weight loss efforts.
"But fruit sugar is natural sugar."
True. But fruit still fits in the "simple sugar" category. Simple sugars do interfere with fat burning.
"So I shouldn't eat fruit if I want to lose weight?"
Nope. I'm not saying that. Fruit can and should be part of your weight loss strategy.
Just don't eat fruit by itself. Combining fruit with a portion of protein slows the release of the sugars into your bloodstream. This prevents insulin spikes which cause fat storage.
Creating Fat Burning Meals
Here are three examples of fat burning meals:
1) Oatmeal, eggs (1 whole egg, 5 egg whites) 2) Skinless grilled chicken, beans, spinach 3) Salmon, brown rice, apple
Don't Forget About Your Fat
Include some healthy fats in your meal plans.
Some sources of "good" fats are extra virgin olive oil, flaxseeds and flax oil, avocado, almonds, and walnuts.
As a snack you could have a handful of walnuts and an apple.
You can have a serving of flax oil with breakfast or sprinkle flax seeds on a salad or oatmeal.
And dairy?
Dairy is ok. When I have dairy its normally skim milk, low or non fat cottage cheese, low fat yogurt and low fat cheese.
This is not a complete list and breakdown of weight loss friendly foods. There are many choices - you just have to know what to look for.
