Body Fat & Six Pack Abs - What Percentage Do You Need To See Your Six Pack?

Measuring your body fat percentage is the best way to chart your progress as you work towards six pack abs.

One of the questions that many people have is, “how low does my body fat percentage have to be to see my six pack?”

The answer is different for men and women. Let me throw some numbers at you…

MEN:

Ripped: 3-6%
Very Lean: less than 9%
Lean: 10-14%

WOMEN:

Ripped: 8-12%
Very Lean: less than 15%
Lean: 16-20%

Here's the part that's kinda strange (whether you’re a man or a woman)…

Most women will see a nice six pack at around 12% body fat.

However, some women can get down to 11-13% body fat, have six pack abs, and still have a few stubborn fat pockets. Most of the time around the hips and lower body areas.

Some men can have ripped abs at 11% body fat, but others don’t have great looking abs until they get down to 6-8% body fat.

The moral of the story?

A specific number doesn’t exist for men or women. Two people can be the same body fat percentage and still look different. It just depends on how the fat is distributed.

To really see your six pack, you’re probably going to have to hit the very lean range. Again, that’s less than 9% for men and less than 15% for women.

It’s hard to get there, but definitely possible.

Getting lean starts in your kitchen. To be in that “very lean” category, you have to have a very “clean” diet - unless you’re genetically gifted.

Of course if you were blessed with great genes you probably wouldn’t be reading this article.

Your training program is important too. You need to mix aerobics and weight training and have a program designed to help get you lean.

But ultimately, how you eat is probably the biggest factor in how lean you’re able to get. Eat well, work out and you will get those six pack abs!
