The Best Muscle Building Exercises

Muscle burns fat and calories and helps keep your body strong and injury free.

The best muscle building exercises all have one similar quality: they are multi-joint exercises (aka compound exercises) that hit multiple muscle groups simultaneously.

These exercises also burn lots of calories (as long as you train with intensity).

Here are four exercises that should be included in your routine:

  • squats
  • deadlifts
  • bench press
  • military press

You can build muscle fast by making these exercises a regular part of an overall, well designed routine.

Squats

Squats are one of the toughest exercises, but they're also very effective for building muscle and burning calories.

Here's a list of muscle groups that are used when you do a squat:

  • quadriceps
  • hamstrings
  • core muscles (abdominal area)
  • hip flexors
  • glutes
  • erector spinae (postural muscles)
Squats work your entire body top to bottom! Do them at least once a week.

Deadlifts

Deadlifts are another great muscle building exercise. They train your

Deadlifts are another difficult exercise, but you will strengthen your body and build lean muscle by doing them regularly.

Military Press

The military press is a great exercise for building up your shoulders.

Your shoulders, triceps and traps and other muscle groups that are recruited when you do military presses.

Those four exercises are not the only effective ones, but they are definitely some of the very best muscle building exercises.
